I apologize, here’s a bit of an off-topic post to help with some understanding about a person behind NickPic.Host, Nick himself, the owner and founder. Doing good things is not a hard task. It can be as simple as opening a door for someone. NickPic.Host, I believe provides a good service to our community, a much-needed service for our community. Image hosts suck. I know this from first-hand experience.
I offered a major resource forum administrators a small sum to help them build their Directory up after I paid for half of their server for each month (and didn’t even get to use “my half” due to a number of resources required). I’m happy with that. It was for the greater good, they have some lit categories, such as Managing Your Board and Roleplay Talk. When I was a staff member there, I ran the numbers. Those two boards make up the bulk of the traffic. The Directory counted for less than 1% of all the visits to the site.
Unfortunately, through a lot of moves, a lot of good content got lost. I moved on from the team, I resigned. Told them to contact me if they need any help. I moved on. Shortly after a major image host decided to cut off Jcink and ProBoards, so I talked to a group of friends and fellow staff members of a site called Fidelius and I told them my crazy idea. They supported it. Thus, NickPic.Host was born. February 14, 2016 was our official launch date. We grew from just the staff of Fidelius, to the members of Fidelius, to having Shadowplay throw their backing behind us. Now, today, we have Caution to the Wind as a great partner, Shadowplay as a great partner, and even Candyland Courture. Check out our partners here.
So. This… This host brought good to our community. Every once in a while someone donates to NickPic.Host, they are doing good to their community, by helping me with costs for the site. We have grown massively. I’m very proud of it. I have been hard at work at making sure everything is stable. For the good of our community.
Now, today, I was thinking of how I can do good? I signed up for Zidisha so very long ago, that I never got around to it. Today, randomly, I opened it up and I helped a tailor out. It wasn’t much, just a few dollars here and there. But, this beautiful soul named Leah Zulu Martha is from Kwacha Kitwe, Zambia! This is a region on the planet that is so remote that none of us that use NickPic.Host will likely ever run into her, or ever be where she lives. Zambia was brutalized by the British colonial rule, the South Africa Company pillaged resources and much more. The country was left in a fragile state. The people of Zambia are proud.
This 44 year odl woman in the Kitwe of the Copperbelt Province is one of 10 siblings. She is a widow. She has 5 children. She only finished grade 9. She took up tailoring to support her family. She bought a sewing machine to clothe her family. To clothe her neighbors. To clothe her customers. This in turn has allowed her to buy food, to buy make scones, to sell it, to become a proud, positive person of her community.
All I did was give her a little money. She is doing more good for her community than any of us will ever do.
Every day at work, I work with the federal government, hospitals, and fortune 500 companies. I work at an amazing company called Stria, LLC. We do documents for nearly every industry you can imagine. I am very lucky. Every day I get to do good. In the words of my CEO, I get to positively impact lives and livelihoods. Today, I did it. I did it by donating. I have been doing this for years.
Making NickPic.Host positively impacts your life, because, you get entertainment from it. You are the artists. You are the story tellers. You are the designers. You are the creative minds that the world needs. I am nowhere near as creative as you all are. My characters are boring. I’m terrible at plot pages. I cannot smash a good blend together in Photoshop. But, still, I respect the talent of you all. I want to be a part of it. Making this image host allowed me to be a part of it.
I challenge you to do good today. It’s simple. Do good. Do something. Inspire kindness. Here’s a few suggestions:
